Birchpaw is a pale silver-brown tom with green eyes. After being exiled from WillowClan as punishment for him and Cedarpaw's suspected murder of Jaystripe, he resides now as a loner.

Somewhat different from his sister, Birchpaw was immediately known for his constant and dedicated protection over his sibling. He's almost always preoccupied with how she's doing before anyone else, and because of it, always makes her his number one priority, even over his Clanmates. Like his sister, he seems to lack any sort of jealousy, and sleeps less than his sister due to his less anxiety-ridden self.
Relationships tend to come easy for the tom; he considers himself pretty approachable and laid back, especially with Cedarpaw around. Unlike his sister, however, he takes less time to open up and relax around others, which leaves him feeling like he hold a pretty decent standing in the Clan. Despite all of this, he still encounters himself feeling lonely and incomplete, as if he's supposed to have someone else there to keep him and Cedarpaw company. He also encounters fatal bundles of rage when held in for too long; he generally avoids being angry, taking it as it comes, but constant anger can turn to rage... which can lead him to destructive paths.
Nonetheless, he dedicates himself to Clan loyalty the best way he knows how, and his empathy extends with open paws. All things considered, he'd just like the best for everyone, and to keep being (mostly) happy with everything, including his sister.

Birchpaw is an apprentice of WillowClan, alongside his twin sister Cedarpaw. The two are seen sharing a piece of prey as he discusses the potential responsibilities they would have as warriors. Some time later, they are called to the Gathering, and follow behind the rest of their Clanmates.
At the Gathering, he and his sister are seen with the rest of their Clan. They have a brief interaction with Spottedpaw, and he briefly apologizes for his anxiety-frozen sister. After their exchange, they listen to Loststar, Swiftstar, and Redstar argue, and his sister asks him what happened. He doesn't know, but notes that it was something major, accidentally wondering out loud if someone would intentionally kill him and/or Cedarpaw. After Loststar warns the Clans to be prepared, they are seen huddling together, trying to figure out the meaning of it. Nonetheless, they return to camp under Quillstar's orders.
The following morning, he is awoken by Swallowpaw's pacing, later training with his sister. He briefly pins his sister, only to be thrown off by her and admitting defeat as she declares herself the winner. Not long afterward, he is given a mentor: Flameheart, and exits with his sister to do hunting training.
Once he returns, he rests for a short bit before escaping to the apprentice's Gathering. The twin apprentices are briefly seen enjoying the Gathering before returning home. After hearing Jaystripe mutter about them being rogues, Cedarpaw asks if he thinks that the warrior's trying to get them exiled, to which he states that he thinks there's something off about him, and finds it annoying that someone would spread false rumors about them.
In order to catch a break, he offers Cedarpaw the chance to head out and explore the territory for a bit, to which she agrees and follows him out. He takes an early lead, heading to a field of goldenrod, and his sister notes that with his knowledge, he could pass as a medicine cat. He states that he enjoys being a warrior too much, and is tackled into a thornbush by her a few moments later, causing her to get a thorn in her paw.

- He hardly remembers life without her. As her twin brother, he takes great pride in defending her and being with her. He's aware that his sister uses him as a comforting tool, and doesn't mind one bit. What matters more to him is keeping her happy and safe, and making sure she can have some sort of peace in her anxiety-ridden life.
