Pearleye is first introduced as Crystalshine's brother to Waterleaf. Waterleaf 'accidentally' calls him cute, but corrects herself and said cool instead. Crystalshine didn't realize this, but Pearleye did. A little later after Waterleaf and him take a walk and get to know more about each other. But as Waterleaf stargazes later that night, talking to her late relatives; Pearleye is mistakenly called out by Waterleaf as an 'eavesdropper.' The two subsequently avoided contact for the remainder of the day. However, the next day when the two she-cats (Crys and Water) are swimming, Waterleaf is swept up by a wave and Pearleye saves her, risking himself in the process. Waterleaf doesn't thank him, and Pearleye mutters how unforgiving she is. Having (assumably) overheard this, Waterleaf turns back and apologizes, even licking him on the cheek. Pearleye debates whether to forgive her or give her the silent treatment, choosing the former, even returning the display of affection. The two then confess their love for each other.
